LUMIERE, Louis (1864-1948), inventor of the cinematograph. L.D.S. addressed to Jean Rey. [Bandol] Villa Lumen, July 11, 1940. 1 p. in-4. Small tear at center fold, some creasing.
During the Second World War, Louis Lumière recommended Pathé and Gaumont.
"[...] I have never personally been involved in cinematographic exploitation or film production other than what was necessary for the realization of my experiments [...]". It would be better for his correspondent to contact "one of the big Pathé or Gaumont companies [...]", "as soon as the situation has returned to a little more normal [...]". At the time, cinematographic resources were controlled by the Reich.
