ROYER-COLLARD, Hippolyte Louis (1802-1850), French anatomist - Lot 111
ROYER-COLLARD, Hippolyte Louis (1802-1850), French anatomist. Set of 2 documents:
-L.A.S. addressed to Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire. S.l.n.d. 3 pp. large in-4. A few small folds.
Interesting letter in reaction to strong reproaches from Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire and his entourage, notably Vernière and "the anathema launched by Mr. Cuvier". He also refers to the work of Karl Friedrich von Kielmeyer (1765-1844), the German naturalist behind the theory of recapitulation, "who professed for a long time in Tübingen", on the "successive resemblances of fetuses to the various degrees of the zoological scale", a work of which Cuvier still has a copy, the note by Jourdan, "whose work has often been useful to me", etc.
-L.S. addressed to Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire. Paris, June 19, 1834. 1 p. in-4. Subscription for 3 copies of Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire's "Philosophie anatomique: Fragment sur la structure et les usages des glandes mammaires des cétacés".
