MOHL, Jules, né Julius (1800-1876), famous French orientalist, specialist in Iran and secretary of the Société asiatique. Set of 4 L.A.S. Two of them addressed to the exceptional Alexandre Vattemare (1796-1864), renowned ventriloquist and French philanthropist, creator of a system of international scientific, literary and agricultural cultural exchange, with letterheads from the Société asiatique. Paris, September 28 and December 1, 1851, January 20, 1859 and November 28, 1860. 3 pp. in-8 and 1 p. in-4. Two printed letterheads of the Société Asiatique.
About the American Asiatic Society and its reports: "The Asiatic Society has received from you [...] sixty-four Oriental books and pamphlets, most of which come from the American missions in the East and which the Society could not have obtained by any other means than your system of international exchanges [...]"; about the printing of the table of contents of the travels of Ibn Battûta (spelled Batoutah) "forming the fifth and last volume of this work. The Society is paying for the printing [...]". Recommendation for M. de Wich, who would like to continue his studies of natural history, more specifically mineralogy, etc.
Interesting correspondence.
