Raoul DUFY (Le Havre 1877-1953) Painter. - Lot 6
Raoul DUFY (Le Havre 1877-1953) Painter.
Set of two signed autograph letters addressed to M. Etienne Bignou, Raoul Dufy's first art dealer, concerning the progress of his work.
In the first, addressed from Chinon on a Monday, the painter talks about his work "transforming the Loire castles into watercolors... But it's a crime to conceal so much beauty and to summarize these magnificent landscapes in color sketches... I'm almost disgusted".
In the second, addressed from Vence on April 28 (1937), he evokes, of course, these works, but also his moments of rest in Vence or Venice "but this under the seal of secrecy, absolutely between us, so as not to upset the people who demand my work", and hopes to sell a painting to the Basel Museum.
