[Paris]. FÉLIBIEN (dom Michel), LOBINEAU (dom Guy-Alexis). H - Lot 98
[Paris]. FÉLIBIEN (dom Michel), LOBINEAU (dom Guy-Alexis). History of the city of Paris. Revue, augmentée et mise au jour par Dom Lobineau... À Paris, chez G. Desprez & J. Desessartz, 1725. 5 volumes in-folio, contemporary havane calf, 6-nerved spine, garnet-red morocco title-pages, ornate caissons, red edges, restorations (some rubbing and blemishes, some freckling and browning, sporadic light spotting, tear without blemish at one fold of the plan, minor interior defects including a small hole in the text on p. 433 t.1). One of the finest books on Paris published in the 18th century. Announced as early as 1713, the publication was compromised by Félibien's death. His colleague Dom Lobineau made the necessary additions and supervised the edition. Illustrated with a fold-out map of Paris, a frontispiece engraved by Simonneau after Hallé and 26 figures on 36 plates, some assembled, in volumes 1 and 2, the next three containing supporting documents. Provenance: Chartreuse de Sélignac, Ain (modern stamp). (Mareuse, 102).
