Large in-8, havana morocco, spine with 5 raised bands, author, title, place and date gilt, caissons edged with a stippling with small angular fleurons, all in cold, top board. decorated with 2 compositions (a landscape and a lion's head) on pieces of leather inserted into the thickness of the plate, framed with dotted lines and cold fleurons, counterplates edged in morocco decorated with 2 fillets and gilded fleurons, and decorated with 2 original compositions in color and gold on incised leather, endpapers featuring original paintings, gilt head, covers. and spine, untrimmed, slipcase [R. Kieffer] (slight rubbing to edges of nerves, negligible flaws to slipcase). Edition illustrated with color etchings and vignettes by Auguste-H. Thomas. Limited edition of 250 copies on BFK de Rives vellum: one of the 20 first copies (n°8) containing 3 states of the etchings, a suite of vignettes printed in bistre, and an original watercolor signed by the illustrator. Provenance: Etienne Beauvillain (20th c. bookplate engraved on copper by Charles Jouas).
