[Sixteenth-century book]. VIRGILE. Opera. Ex vetustissimo eoque accuratissimo Bibliothecae Palat. m.s. exemplari restituta; cum indice erythraei, quem Antonius Maria bassus cremonensis accommodauit Addita Fulgentii Planciadis Virgiliana continentia. [Heidelberg], Ex bibliopolio Commeliniano, 1599. Three works in one volume, in-8, [2] f., 412 p.; 168 p.; [84] f., contemporary ivory vellum with covers, smooth spine, title in ink (slight angular wetness to last f.). The second part of the volume, comprising studies and analyses of Virgil, is preceded by a special title page dated 1589. The third part contains Antonio Maria Bassa's Index, with a separate title page dated 1601. A fine copy from the library of the Dutch philologist Pieter Burmann (1668-1741), who inherited it from his colleague Petrus Scriverius (1576-1660). Burmann annotated Books I and II of the Georgics in the margin, and signed at the foot of the title; Scriverius inscribed eight verses on the first flyleaf.
