[MAGNAN (Dominique)]. La ville de Rome, ou Description abrégée de cette superbe ville A Rome, de l'Impr. d'A. Casaletti ; chez Venan, et al. 1778. 4 volumes in-folio, [2] f., 68 col. + [2] f., 16 col. + [2] f., 60 col. + [1] f., 96 col. pl., contemporary half parchment with corners, smooth spine, brown and fawn morocco title-pieces, all margins preserved (spine a little browned, 3 headpieces worn, rubbed edges; sporadic very moderate russeting). A fine copy of this splendid work, which illustrates aspects of Rome in 421 engravings, showing modern buildings and ancient ruins, sculptures and bas-reliefs, as well as plans. The titles list 425 figures, but the tables list only 421, almost all of which are distributed at 2 per plate, and this copy conforms. The title pages are framed with repeated engravings; the arms of Cardinal Rezzonico are engraved on copper at the head of the dedication; the 2-column text is framed with a fillet.
