[Protestantism]. EUSTACHE (David). Eight sermons on the firs - Lot 96
[Protestantism]. EUSTACHE (David). Eight sermons on the first seven verses of the epistle of Saint Jude. Prononcés à Montpellier A Orange, par Edouard Raban, 1655. In-8, [9] f., 376 p., contemporary supple parchment (binding in binder's condition; wetness, stains, corners of f. corned, worms affecting qq. letters in cahiers C to E). Extremely rare work, not listed in the BnF catalog, and of which we have located only one copy, in the National Library of Sweden. This suggests that it was deliberately destroyed at the time. Although very tired, this copy bears witness to the piety of the Protestants who preserved it. Other editions of sermons and other publications by pastor and controversialist David Eustache (c. 1595-c. 1672) are known, but all are rare. Enclosed: - [Sixteenth-century book]. [Protestantism]. CRO (François de). Réplique à la response diffamatoire de Maistre Adam Heurtelou prétendu evesque de Mende. Contre la réalité du sacrement de l'autel & célibat des ecclésiastiques. S.l., s.n., December 1, 1596. In-8, [8] f., p.17-268, [2] f. (errata, 1 blank), limp old parchment, (binding browned with lacunae, unbound; wetnesses; brown spots on second half, worm trav. affecting qq. letters). Rare work, only 3 copies reported in the libraries of Aix, Montpellier, and the Soc. Hist. du Protestantisme français in Paris. The second part of the work, devoted to ecclesiastical celibacy, is preceded by a special title on page 173. Despite its poor condition, this copy remains a precious testimony to Protestant piety. (USTC 6087). 2 volumes.
