First edition of the famous publishing monument that brilliantly illustrated Enlightenment thought. This copy comprises: 11 volumes of plates (from 1762 to 1772), 5 volumes of supplements, including one of plates (published in 1776 and 1777), 1 volume (of 2) of tables, and 15 (of 17) volumes of text. Missing are t.2 of Tables and t.16 and 17 of text. According to the publisher's count, which adds up each section of double, triple and quadruple plates, the total number of plates is 3129. They are all present in this copy.
