Provenance: Former Dr. James Spillius collection, London, England. Collected between 1952 and 1954, when Dr. Spillius, an English scientist and anthropologist, was sent to the Solomon Islands by the Australian National University and the British Colonial Office. Considered one of the greatest collectors of objects from the Solomon Islands, he donated 700 objects to the Australian National University on completion of his mission.
