(including title-frontis.), 56 p., maps, contemporary speckled fawn half-basane, smooth spine, red morocco title-piece (binding worn, flyleaf, mostly marginal freckling, folds through a few maps and small marginal tears, a marginal stain on map 64, restored tear on maps 65 and 76, splits at fold on maps 89 and 97). This edition by Charles François Delamarche of Vaugondy's Atlas universel is corrected and enlarged. It includes a title-frontispiece engraved by Ch. Baquoy, 12 maps representing ancient geography and 105 maps representing modern geography, including maps of European countries, cities and provinces, including France, Spain and Italy, as well as a map of the Holy Land with two plans of Jerusalem adorned with an illustrated vignette, a map of Virginia and Maryland, a map of the West Indies and a map of the St. Domingue Islands, and maps of China, Japan and Egypt adorned with handsome illustrated title cartouches. This atlas is enriched with 4 maps, 2 of which are on two sheets illustrating France, Switzerland and North America. The first on 2 leaves, Tableau des villes de France by N.L. du Chemin, 1777. The second, also on 2 sheets, Carte de Suisse suivant sa nouvelle division en XVIII Cantons formant la République Helvétique by engineer and geographer H. Mallet, 1798. Finally, two maps of North America engraved for Morse's Geography and published by John Stockdale in 1792: A map of the Northern and middle states comprehending the western territory and the British dominions in North America by Jedidiah Morse and engraved by G. Allen, Sadlers Wells Row, Islington; and A map of the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, comprehending the Spanish provinces of East and West Florida exhibiting the boundaries by Joseph Purcell.
