MOYRIAC DE MAILLA (Joseph-Marie-Anne de). Histoire générale de la Chine ou annales de cet Empire traduites du Tong-Lien-Kang-Mou. Paris, Ph.-D. Pierres puis Moutard, 1777-1784. 13 volumes in-4, uniformly bound in contemporary marbled glazed fawn calf, 5-ribbed spine, red and fawn titles and giblets, small gilt-lettered caissons, gilt coat of arms at tail of spine, red edges, some restorations (defects in use, including a few rubs), one spine partly split, one headband partly bent, a partially split jaw, an uncovered tail cap, some brown spots and foxing, sustained wetness on pages 8 and 11 with weakened paper at the beginning and in the margins). Illustrated with 24 plates, including 9 fold-outs: 3 maps of ancient and modern China engraved for the first time by the fire order of Emperor Kang-Hi, 5 fold-out tables of various Chinese imperial dynasties and a chronological table. Joseph-Marie-Anne de Moyriac de Mailla (1669-1748), a French Jesuit, was a missionary in Peking. The edition was published by J.-B. Grosier and revised by M. Le Roux Deshautesrayes.
