[Geographical map]. [China]. WEBER (K. I.). Map of North Eastern China. Hamburg, L. Friederichsen & Co. 1893. 96 x 119 cm, map mounted on canvas in 36 segments (evenly browned, marks in margins). Impressive map of western China. It extends north from the Gobi Desert to Shên-Yang (Shenyang), south from Hupei province (Hubei) to Hang-Chou (Hangzhou) and Shanghai in the west. At a scale of 1:1,355,000, the map features cities, roads, imperial tombs... and clearly identifies provincial borders with coloured outlines. Karl Ivanovitch Weber (1841 - 1910) was a diplomat of the Russian Empire and a personal friend of the Korean King Kojong. He is best known for having been Russia's first Consul General in Korea from 1885 to 1897. (Tooley IV, p.365).
