BRETON DE LA MARTINIERE (Jean Baptiste Joseph). La Chine en miniature, ou Choix de costumes, arts et métiers de cet Empire, représentés [en] gravures, la plupart d'après des originaux inédits du cabinet de feu M. Bertin Paris, Nepveu, 1811-1812. 6 volumes in-18, period fawn raciné calf, smooth spine, gilt title, gilt tomaison, gilt fleurons and Chinese characters, boards edged with a gilt floral frieze and gilt fillet, gilt roulette on the spines and chasses, gilt edges (spines faded, snagged headcap, corners a little rubbed; small tear without mq. at corner of pl. t.2, paper damage in margin of 2 f. and repaired tear in margin of p.17 in t.4). A fine copy, nicely bound and of prestigious provenance, of the complete series produced by the publisher Nepveu in 1811 (4 volumes) and 1812 (2 volumes). The illustration consists of 108 engraved plates, including 4 frontispieces and some fold-outs, all finely colored at the time. Provenance: Viscount de Montesquiou-Fezensac (1810-1872; bookplate at Château de Bligny, near Limours), then: Grace Whitney Hoff (1862-1938). (Colas, 433; Cordier, Bibl. sinica, 64).
