BELL (John). First edition in French of this account by the Scottish physician John Bell (1691-1780), who traveled to Persia as early as 1714 in the company of a Russian ambassador; he subsequently carried out several missions at the request of the Russian government, which took him to China, Persia and finally Constantinople in 1737. Illustrated with a large copper-engraved folding map (small ordinary tear rebacked) showing the route followed from Moscow to Peking. (Cordier Bibl. sinica 2093-94).
