SEGALEN (Victor). Stèles. Pei-King, des presses du Pei-T'ang, 1912. In-8 narrow (approx. 29 x 14 cm.), 102 p., folded Chinese-style, in a cover composed of two camphor plates, the title in Chinese engraved on the upper cover (silk binding laces missing; text cut at the folds separated into 7 parts). First edition of this famous collection of poems imbued with oriental spirituality, Victor Segalen's masterwork. The edition was limited to 286 copies. This is the only unnumbered copy on Corée paper, in addition to the 81 numbered copies on the same paper, which were reserved for the author's close friends and personalities. Usually accompanied by 3 hand-applied cinnabar-red seals, this edition has four: one under the justification, one on the title page, one on a blank page, and one on a page bordered by a black fillet. Provenance: the author, by descent: copy kept by the heirs since 1912. (In French in the text, 340).
