SEGALEN Victor (1878-1919) 2 L.A.S. to Yvon Segalen, Shanghai, Tientsin, May 12 and June 10. 13 pp. in-4 (bifeuillet with alteration of median fold) On May 12, he asks his son about teaching Latin; on June 10, he announces "I do have a friend in Russia, it's Mr. Alexeieff, professor of Chinese Literature in Petrograd; - but what has become of him in this affair, the most shameful to have happened since the war: the Russian Revolution! I'm waiting to hear from him. [ ] ". He sends Brest "three or four large positives of the Lions of Leang [ ]". He goes on to discuss various matters, including the move of their house to Tientsin. He gives toys "to the children of Mà, - you know, the old boy who accompanied me all the way to Tibet [ ]". He unpacks the myth of the "revolving tables" and affirms "There is no devil in it, - and no "spirit", but only physical forces more or less similar to electricity, and which give the table its movements; - and also a particular disposition of the ideas of the one who "writes" [ ]". He announces that he will soon be leaving for Peking, and so will know the date of his return soon. Unpublished letters, family provenance.
