On January 5, 1799, with engineer Jomard, he measured the height of the Great Pyramid step by step.
Back in France, he became professor of drawing at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers. On his death, he became the King's architect, director of the "Machine de Bougival" and Knight of the Legion of Honor.
