Voyages de l'embouchure de l'Indus à Lahor, Caboul, Balkh et à Boukhara ; et retour par la Perse pendant les années 1831, 1832, et 1833 Paris, Arthus Bertrand, 1835, 4 parts (3 text volumes and an atlas) in 3 vols. in-8, contemporary blond half-basane, smooth spine decorated with black and gold fillets, brown title-pieces (cover gap at the head of one spine, another detached at the head, small damage to title-pieces, one spinebone split, ; sporadic freckling, more pronounced on the first 2 plates). First edition in French of this account by the British soldier and diplomat Alexander Burnes, who spent 3 years in Central Asia. The translation is by Jean-Baptiste Eyriès, founding member of the Société de Géographie de Paris in 1821. The second plate shows the Bamian Buddha statues destroyed in 2001. The last plate is a large folding map after J. Arrowsmith by Ambroise Tardieu, to accompany Burnes' travels, with his route traced.
