SARTRE Anne-Marie, née Schweitzer (1882-1969). Mother of Jea - Lot 56
SARTRE Anne-Marie, née Schweitzer (1882-1969). Mother of Jean-Paul Sartre.
L.A.S. "Yon", Meudon, June 21, 1910, to her mother-in-law Marie- Marguerite Sartre, 4 pp. in-8, headed Villa des Peupliers.
"[ ] Since April, when we were in Arcachon, I have led a very full life. I've only been back in Meudon since yesterday, when I found your kind card to Poulou (Jean-Paul Sartre's nickname). [Poulou is doing well; he took water from the Chomel spring, took cold showers like me, and had a great time there with his nice cousins. He's not bored here on his own, though, and seems to be very happy here.
Anne-Marie Schweitzer was married to Jean-Baptiste Sartre. He died in 1906, a year after Jean-Paul Sartre was born. Sartre had a happy, solitary childhood. He recalls his childhood in his famous autobiography Les Mots (1964).
