André SORNAY (1902-2000) - Lot 30
André SORNAY (1902-2000) Buffet with quadrangular box in Oregon pine, brushed, stained and black patina opening with two full sliding doors decorated with a series of vertical bands of blackened wood forming holds. The left side of the cabinet is decorated with an ornamentation of inlaid brass nails arranged in horizontal bands. Circa 1935. H : 98 / W : 129 D : 46 cm. It is in 1932 that André Sornay "the most daring of the cabinetmakers of Lyon" develops and patents a revolutionary ornamental process made of brass or aluminum nails in dotted lines. Commonly called "nailing", this technique allowed the artist to obtain rigidity and stability in the construction of his furniture while giving it a unique decorative aspect.
