MÖBIUS, Karl August (1825-1908), Prussian zoologist. Set of - Lot 299
MÖBIUS, Karl August (1825-1908), Prussian zoologist. Set of 6 L.A.S. 1862 to 1871. 12 pp. in-4 or in-8. Two headers of the Naturhistorisches Museum in Hamburg. In German. Very interesting scientific correspondence, devoted in particular to malacology and gorgonians. Möbius thanks a correspondent for sending mollusks from Greenland (his study of the marine mollusks Danae will serve as a basis for the comparison of the species of the Bay of Kiel and the Strait of Öre), asks that the places concerned be underlined on a map, as they are difficult for him to find; the variety "Embletonia Mariac" that Dr. Bergh received from Dr. Möbius is not mentioned in the correspondence. Bergh received from Dr. Meyer was not found near Samsô, but near the island of Aarö and all the mollusks found by Meyer and him on the Danish coast are listed in Volume I of the Fauna of Kiel Bay. Möbius also mentions his work on gorgonians: Gorgonides and Solanderia gracilis which he would like to obtain, as well as a specimen of Vernetius, etc. Notes on the backs of three letters.
