ROCHEFORT, Henri (1830-1913), journalist and founder of the - Lot 273
ROCHEFORT, Henri (1830-1913), journalist and founder of the newspaper L'Intransigeant. Set of 8 documents: -M.A.S. of the n°15 of the satirical newspaper La Lanterne. Brussels, September 5, 1868. 40 pp. in-8. A few chips and paper defects without gravity. Nice cover drawn in pen with different calligraphies. La Lanterne, founded by Henri Rochefort, marked the time by its acerbic tone and its hostility to the imperial regime. Rochefort, exiled in Brussels, had his sheets sold clandestinely. -L.A.S. Paris, s.d. February 3. 2 pp. 1/2 in-8. On the printed head of L'Intransigeant. Rochefort will not be able to answer to a "summons to witness" before a court, affirming to know the "sieur Pournin only for having sent him away from the Journal where he was doing the sport and that he compromised during the races of Nice, by going to claim subsidies to the gambling house of Monaco [...]". In spite of "a sheet of blackmail" defamatory, Rochefort did not react "his indignity sheltering him from reprisals". -P.A.S. and P.S. containing his candidacy for the legislative elections, in the 20th district of Paris. London, July 31, 1899. 3 pp. in-4. Stamp of the Consulate. Interesting document from Rochefort, then on the run in London, to escape the French Justice. -3 L.A.S. S.l. and Paris, [6 August 1883], 3 December 1886 and n.d. "Friday, April 4". 2 pp. in- and 1 p. in-12. Appointments, authorizations, etc. Enclosed: -BOULANGER, General Georges (1837-1891). P.A.S. and P.S. relative to his candidacy for the legislative elections, written from London where he was forced into exile after the accusations of conspiracy that weighed on him. July 31, 1899. 1 p. in-folio and 2 pp. in-4. Consulate stamp. -BOULANGER, general Georges (1837-1891). 2 C.V.A. of which one signed 3 pp. in-16 oblong. -L.A.S. from Mme Rochefort. Nice. November 27, 1926. 2 pp. in-4.
