GOUNOD, Charles (1818-1893). Set of 3 L.A.S. Paris, Saint-Cl - Lot 236
GOUNOD, Charles (1818-1893). Set of 3 L.A.S. Paris, Saint-Cloud and London, May 6, 1872, April 28, 1889 and s.d. 13 pp. in-8 or in-12. A letter-card and three double sheets of pink paper " Tavistock House " with printed header. Gounod writes a virulent letter announcing some " ruckus " with his English agent : " Indeed, we are going to enter a very serious phase, do you hear, of this set of operations which advance with the slowness and the safety of an investment [...]. You have done perfectly well not to inform... [...] of my strategic movements. [...] I will not give up the war, even if it exhausts my last forces. His English agent obviously misappropriated the copyrights of Gounod in England. Gounod then copies two letters of Arthur Chappell concerning his rights of "publication". "Now, dear friend, silence!!! silence!!! [...] patience! attention!. and silence!.. Everything works. Oh! no, I will not give up such a beautiful campaign ". Gounod could not go to Lemoine and will send shortly "the collection of Biodina", evokes an election and his Romeo and Juliet, etc. We join a L.A.S. of his son, the painter Jean Gounod.
