"On reflection, I prefer not to take sides in a debate where French musicians are certainly right... But do we fight with "recipes"?". -Printed piece signed twice with autograph address, addressed to Amédée Buffet. S.l.n.d. 1 p. in-8 on card-letter. Petition for the safeguard of the French catholic patrimony, initiated by Maurice Barrès, relayed by Debussy and ratified by many other artists quoted (Bonnat, Carolus Duran, Detaille, Widor, D'Indy, etc). Debussy sends this adhesion to Buffet: "Deeply moved by the numerous and recent destructions of humble churches, without style perhaps, but full of charm and moving memories, of picturesque calvaries and old cemeteries, we come to group together, artists and writers of all beliefs [...] to protest [...]. We want to preserve these remains of the past, these sources of spiritual life [...] ".
