Precious reflections by Sartre on his vocation as a writer, a preparatory draft for his autobiography Les Mots, published in 1964. "But I believed in my vocation. This certainty was all the more blind, all the more unshakeable, as it was foreign to me [...]. My value was only imaginary; it became my future truth. I passed from play to bovarysm [...] heroism, genius, vocation, all these childish words lose their meaning in the universe of adults.
