MIRBEAU, Octave (1848-1917). L.A.S. to Paul Hervieu. S.l.n.d - Lot 190
MIRBEAU, Octave (1848-1917). L.A.S. to Paul Hervieu. S.l.n.d. [January 1905]. 1/2 p. in-8. Octave Mirbeau takes the defense of Maxim GORKI arrested by the Tzar's police for his progressive and pro-Bolshevik words. "L'humanité takes the initiative of a protest against the arrest of Gorky, a protest, as you will see, not at all political, but entirely literary and human. We would be particularly happy if you would give your name. I have no doubt of it [...]". Mirbeau admired Hervieu, his style and his humor. But his refusal to sign the petition in favor of Gorky will be fatal to their friendship.
