MIRBEAU, Octave (1848-1917). L.A.S. Carrières-sous-Poissy, s - Lot 189
MIRBEAU, Octave (1848-1917). L.A.S. Carrières-sous-Poissy, s.d. [1894]. 1 p. in-8. Paper slightly insolated. Octave Mirbeau convinces a colleague to join the committee set up for the "sale of Father Tanguy": "You knew the brave Father Tanguy. His widow is in the most terrible misery, so we thought of organizing a sale of paintings for her benefit. Georges Petit will take care of everything. But a committee is needed. The committee is composed: President. Puvis de Chavannes - Members. Auguste Rodin, Claude Monet, Renoir, Carrière, Pissaro, Cazin, Raffaelli [...]". Father Tanguy, whose face is familiar to us thanks to the portraits Van Gogh made of him, was the grinder and color dealer of the Impressionists. Very early on, he believed in them and was their faithful friend. Maxime Maufra and Octave Mirbeau were the instigators of this charity sale which took place at the Hôtel Drouot on June 2, 1894.
