CADOL, Édouard (1831-1898), French dramatist and novelist. I - Lot 154
CADOL, Édouard (1831-1898), French dramatist and novelist. Important set of 37 L.A.S. to various colleagues, theater directors, journalists, etc. 1856 to 1896 and some letters n.d. About 50 pp. in-8 and in-12. Two envelopes preserved. Abundant literary correspondence of the playwright Édouard Cadol, a talented vaudevillist and critic, close to George Sand, who became a reader-examiner of the Comédie Française. These letters make it possible to retrace part of the author's career, particularly as a playwright: he sent various manuscripts to his correspondents, evoked his successes and failures, defended his works to theaters, newspapers or literary societies, etc. He evokes in particular his following works and plays: " Polyerate ", " Monsieur mon corps ", " Les Inutiles ", " Hippolyte Gobert ", " Le Spectre de Patrick ", " Madame Élise ", " Marguerite Chauveley ", " La Grande Vie - La Préférée ", " Berthe Sigelin ", etc. He evokes his inspirations (Dickens), gives advice to a young author, comments on his performances, etc.
