MAZARIN, Jules (1602-1661), cardinal and statesman. P.S. "Il - Lot 113
MAZARIN, Jules (1602-1661), cardinal and statesman. P.S. "Il Card Mazarini" with autograph compliment, addressed to M. de Gassion. Paris, August 9, 1643. Address on the verso of the second leaf with black wax stamps with Mazarin's arms and a fragment of silk lakes. Some yellowing, tear at the foot without affecting the text. Interesting letter concerning the wound that Gassion received during the capture of Thionville. "You do not doubt the extreme displeasure that your wound has caused me; if you are well persuaded of the extreme passion that I have for everything that concerns you". Mazarin praised the two years of work crowned by the capture of Thionville, would have liked to go and see his wounded friend and added: "Do not be in pain of what the Queen promised you. Besides the fact that her word is inviolable, this last accident that happened to you will not strengthen her a little in the resolution to keep it for you". Jean de Gassion was elevated to the marshalate shortly afterwards.
