LOUIS XVIII (1755-1824). L.A. addressed to Count Claude-Loui - Lot 105
LOUIS XVIII (1755-1824). L.A. addressed to Count Claude-Louis de La Châtre. Hartwell, 30 May 1810. 1 p. 1/4 in-4. Address on verso of the second leaf with red wax seal with the arms of France preserved. "Let us enjoy but especially adore". Very nice letter, about his nephew: "[...] If you want me to tell you the truth, convinced that one does not make donkeys drink when they are not thirsty, I never expected much from the bottom of the affair and I did not cease to be surprised, during the few hours that it took a favorable turn [...My nephew showed up, I followed him with great satisfaction until he left for London, and what you tell me about him is the last straw, because in my eyes, heart is much better than character. Just as the Arab traveler finds from time to time in the desert, wells dug on purpose to quench the thirst of his mount and himself, so the goodness of Providence has sown this painful road called human life, with events similar to those which are happening to me at this moment, so that we can, like the Prophet Elijah, ambulare in fortitudine cibi illius. Let us enjoy but especially let us adore [...] ". Louis XVIII evokes the Prince of Condé, a trip, etc. Claude Seignolle added, about this letter, on a separate sheet "to read very carefully because it hides personal emotions".
