[Red Dragon and Enchiridion] - Lot 103
[Red Dragon and Enchiridion] The True Red Dragon, or the Art of commanding the celestial, aerial, terrestrial and infernal spirits, with the Secret of making the Dead speak; of winning all the times that one puts to the lotteries; of discovering hidden treasures, etc., etc.; followed by the Black Hen, a Cabala which had remained unknown until now. S.l., "Approved by Astaroth", 1521 (ca. 1820), in-12 bound in full cardboard titled "Cabalistic Secrets", small paper losses at the headpieces. 140 pages illustrated with a frontispiece representing the red dragon, and various woodcuts depicting the mysterious wand, the cabalistic circle, the signs and characters of the infernal spirits, etc., including 6 off-text, sometimes printed in black and red. Two jumps in pagination without missing text. Bound in the suite: "Enchiridion Leonis Papae serenissimo imperatori Carolo magno. Enchiridion of Pope Leo, sent as a rare gift to the Emperor Charlemagne. Corrected edition." In Rome, (1740) (Blocquel's printing house in Lille (1813)), 162 pages illustrated with an engraved vignette on title and 7 plates of magic figures in color, foxing. Interesting reunion of these two famous esoteric texts. (References: Yves-Plessis, Bibliog. Sorcellerie, 1089 and 1064 - Caillet, 3620).
