Rare white earthenware medicine vase on pedestal, with two handles in the shape of a sea horse head, the attachments in the shape of a lion head decorated with scrolls, with blue, green and yellow decoration of the crowned arms of France, on the body, and, in a reserve, the inscription S. De. Cic. C.R., surmounted of a head of cherub accosted of two terms. The foot and the neck with decoration of acanthus leaves and volutes. Nevers or South of France, late 17th century Height : 40 cm. Without cover (A scroll is missing, a crack on the back and a handle restored) Provenance : Artcurial sale, Paris Hôtel Dassault, 6.11.2002, lot 237, expert Robert Montagut who wrote : " Apparently unpublished piece which poses an interesting problem of attribution. The influence of the Nivernais region is obvious, but there are elements that make us think of the South of France : decoration of the neck and the foot, presence of imbrications of scales and shape of the handles".
