Jean DECULLANT. - Lot 32
Jean DECULLANT. Exterior complement. Study on the exterior of the horse, which the author explains immediately as follows: "Under this title we will understand the study of all that completes indeed the exterior knowledge of the horse, each part of which has so far been appreciated separately; to this third section of the course are related the proportions, the legs, the dresses, the breeds, the choice of the horses according to the services to which they are suited, the reports, the examination of the horse exposed for sale and the prohibitive cases...? The manuscript, which has remained unpublished, dates from the end of the 18th century; it refers on many occasions to the great horse specialists such as Bourgelat, Garsault and Lafosse. It is bound in full basane period, with a smooth spine decorated, title piece, gilt roulette of framing on the plates, the name of the author in the center of the first plate. The manuscript is written in ink, the text is lined and framed with a double red and brown net. It is foliated from 1 to 216, with a few leaves left white to air out the presentation. Important titles and words have been underlined and written in bold. The text is accompanied by a few drawings, first a folding board showing the horse in profile, then a drawing of the back, and finally a front view showing the proportions and the horse's legs. At the end of the volume, the author added four small watercolour drawings, on a first sheet, proposing to explain through the drawing the notions of balance and balance. A second sheet represents various geometric figures intended for children's understanding. The manuscript ends with a table of contents indicating all the parts studied: proportions, plumbing, gaits, gait, dresses, breeds, guarantees and horseshoes.
