(MANUSCRIBER) Adolphe DANHAUSER (1835-1896), French composer and music theorist. Definitive manuscript of his famous "Théorie de la musique" which he wrote in 1872 and which is still authoritative today. A student of Bazin, Halévy and Reber at the Paris Conservatory, Danhauser became a tenured professor of solfège. It was at this time that he published his work, covering the basic and advanced notions of solfeggio such as the conventions of classical music writing, the notions of rhythm, tonality, scale and harmony. The manuscript is written in black ink on large double leaves held together by three cords. It begins with a title page followed by two preface pages signed by Danhauser. This is followed by 130 foliated pages, 43 of which deal with musical signs, 38 with tonality, 24 with measures, 8 with musical execution, 7 with complements, 6 with notes and 4 with tables. The manuscript is accompanied by an extract from the minutes of the Conseil d'Enseignement des Etudes Musicales of July 19, 1872, adopting Danhauser's work for the use of the classes of the Conservatoire. The two-page document is signed by Ambroise Thomas, President of the Council, Charles Blanc, Director of Fine Arts, A. de Beauplan, Félicien David, Victor Massé, François Bazin and M. Barbereau, all members of the Institute.
