A Korhogo, Senoufo, Northern Ivory Coast or Burkina Faso - Lot 97
A Korhogo, Senoufo, Northern Ivory Coast or Burkina Faso An early 20th century Korhogo cloth made by the Senufo people of Korhogo, Ivory Coast or Burkina Faso A copy featuring a rare subject, a masquerade ceremony. If the Korhogo reflects the ritual ordeals of passage such as initiation or funerals, this copy is a good illustration. The angles or corners have probably been cut out to stretch this canvas on a stretcher. Good general condition. Minor wear. Bibliography: Karl Ferdinand Schaeder, "Le Tissage en Afrique au sud du Sahara", Die Weberai in Afrika südlich der Sahara, Pantena Verlag, Munich (Munchen) 1987. 1st half of the 20th century 134 x 190 cm
