A Bakhnung Weaving, Berber ethnic group, Tunisia, of great f - Lot 87
A Bakhnung Weaving, Berber ethnic group, Tunisia, of great finesse. A red ground Bakhnung (woman's shawl) from Gourmessa area southern Tunisia Half body blanket (Shawl) of a Berber woman worn in the South of Tunisia. This shawl was very finely woven probably in the region of Gourmessa. It is decorated with finely woven patterns in white cotton on the edges. The red dye was used in high doses, and thus the background is of a rare intensity. Good general condition except for a hole probably made for a functional reason. Minor wear and tear.
