A Berber woven blanket from the Mzab, South-West Algeria. - Lot 82
A Berber woven blanket from the Mzab, South-West Algeria. A late 19th century - early 20th century Algerian Berber hanging from Mzab area. A woven woollen hanging with three spaces in the Berber tradition and a white background space that crosses this field. These weavings were appreciated by the inhabitants of cities like Ghardaïa and villages in the South of Algeria and also by the Tuareg. Minor wear. Good general condition. John Gillow writes to this propos : If, with the exception of a few regional variations, the weaving technique of the Algerian Berbers is identical to that of Morocco or Tunisia, their dyeing process deserves a closer look. John Gillow describes Alastair Hull's work on dyeing Bibliographie : John Gillow, " Textiles Africains ", Editions du Regard, Thames and Hudson, London, 2003.
