DATI, Carlo Roberto (1619-1675), Florentine... - Lot 320 - Gros & Delettrez
DATI, Carlo Roberto (1619-1675), Florentine nobleman, philologist and scientist, secretary of the Accademia della Crusca and disciple of Galileo and Torricelli. L.A.S. addressed to his brother, in Pistoia. Florence, December 17, 1665. 2 pp. in-folio. Address on the back of the second leaf. Minor paper restorations. Interesting and uncommon letter from the Italian philologist Carlo Dati. About a gift sent to the King of France by the mathematician, physicist and astronomer Vincenzo Viviani, also a student of Galileo (1622-1703). He mentions the recovery of a relative, who is still unable to go to Pisa, and encloses a basket of 13 oysters, a rare commodity because it is prized in Florence. We are very grateful to Mrs. Lison d'Houwt for her kind assistance and valuable information.
