THOMSON, George Malcolm (1848-1933), English... - Lot 310 - Gros & Delettrez
THOMSON, George Malcolm (1848-1933), English naturalist born in Calcutta and residing in New Zealand. L.A.S. addressed to Alphonse MILNE-EDWARDS (1835-1900), French zoologist and carcinologist. Dunedin, New Zealand, August 30, 1882. 2 pp. in-8. In English. Thomson evokes an exchange of crustaceans and plants with the paleontologist and malacologist Henri Filhol (1843-1902) [who wrote, among other things, Considerations relative to the crustacean fauna of New Zealand (1885)], the latter's research on Campbell Island in New Zealand [where a peak now bears his name: Filhol Peak] for which he hopes that an English translation will be made: "I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Filhol when he was here in my study. I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Filhol when he was here in my father's house, and of handing him a considerable collection of crustacea and of dried plants. He promised to make me an exchange when he returned to France, but no doubt he had more promises of the kind to fulfil than he could manage [...] ". Thomson also mentions the work of Émile Blanchard (1819-1900), author of La Nouvelle-Zélande et les petites îles australes adjacentes etc.
