SICARD, Roch-Ambroise Cucurron Sicard called the abbot (1742-1822), French ecclesiastic who dedicated his life to the education of deaf-mutes. Set of 2 L.A.S. The first addressed to Abbé Lecointre, the second to M. de Bouillé. S.l. and [Paris], 15 September 1816 and 20 January 1818. About his successor, Abbé Perrier. On the letterhead of the "Royal Institution for the deaf and dumb from birth"; appointment at the library of the Institute; Sicard proposes to Bouillé "the person best suited to fulfill the views of his parents. It will be the greatest sacrifice on my part, the most important service I can render them [...]". Attached is a L.A.S. from Joseph-Marie de Gérando (1772-1842), a French linguist, pedagogue and philanthropist, then president of the board of directors of the Institution for the Deaf and Dumb of Paris. Letter addressed to Baron Charles Dupin, about the institution for deaf-mutes and a sheet of illustrated manual alphabet (1861).
