BAKER, Joséphine (1906-1975). Set of 5 documents: -Typed letter signed and initialled, addressed to Maurice Blech. Paris, April 9, 1940. 1 p. 1/2 in-4. Tears to the folds, without missing. Josephine Baker participates in the war effort in 1940 at the Red Cross: "[...] I am at the French Red Cross as Head of the Games Section for the airmen. I am overjoyed with all these occupations because it seems to me that I am doing my little duty. At present I sing every Saturday at 6:30 pm at the P.T.T. in the soldier's quarter hour. Every Tuesday at 8:45 p.m. at Radio-Cité I play in a little sketch that I think is funny. You can see that we had births in the house: I have 2 small white mice which have just had each 5 small mice. They are loves especially when they suckle their mother. They look like real little pigs in miniature [...]".
