HENRI III (1551-1589). L.S. addressed to... - Lot 86 - Gros & Delettrez
HENRI III (1551-1589). L.S. addressed to Charles de LORRAINE, duke of Aumale, Paris, April 19, 1587. 1 p. large folio. Two minimal chips. Document written at the end of the reign of Henry III, during the war of the "Three Henrys": Henry III at the head of the royalists, Henry of Guise at the head of the League and Henry of Navarre leading the Protestants. In this difficult context, Henry III complained about the imprisonment of one of his captains and his men, going to Boulogne "for the security and convenience of the place". The King ordered the release of these men, then in prison in Montreuil, and protested against those "who have been dragged into a foolish enterprise, in which there is too much contempt for me to be able to endure it [...]". Document countersigned by Nicolas Brulart de Sillery (1544-1624), chancellor of France and diplomat.
