FOUQUET DE BELLE-ISLE, Charles-Louis-Auguste... - Lot 81 - Gros & Delettrez
FOUQUET DE BELLE-ISLE, Charles-Louis-Auguste (1684-1761), diplomat and marshal of France in 1740. L.S. with 16 autograph lines, addressed to Louis-Jules Mancini-Mazarini (1716-1798), duke of Nivernais, ambassador, letter writer, poet, academician and French playwright, with some annotations in his hand. Nice, January 6, 1749. 2 pp. 1/3 in-4. End of the Corsican revolt in San Fiorenzo (Saint-Florent). Fouquet de Belle-Isle announces that the insular rebellion has just been defeated in Saint-Florent by Séraphin Marie Rioult de Douilly, marquis of Cursay. Nevertheless, the conferences of Nice were suspended "the King made a general plan of evacuation and restitution that was sent to Vienna to oblige the Empress to formally agree to do justice to the duke of Modena and to the Republic of Gennes [...] until then all will be suspended".
