FOUCHÉ, Joseph, duke of Otranto (1759-1820). Set of 2 documents. -P.A. S.l.n.d. 1 p. in-4. Fouché wants to gather his papers before his departure in exile. "Power given to Mr. Bouisson. The duke of Otranto wanting to centralize all his papers which concern his properties charges Mr. Bouisson his intendant [in Paris] to collect, as soon as possible, all the titles, plans, notes, information, which will be found, either at his notary's office" or at a surveyor's office. He adds "All the papers, notes, plans etc. will be deposited in my archives to be examined and classified in order [...]". He evokes Soult, Rovigo, etc. -L.A.S. Carlsbad, June 3, 1818. 2 pp. in-8. Letter from exile, he takes the waters, undergoes medical treatment, mentions a chain intended for Josephine, his wife, "we are leaving the city of Prague to settle in Linz, a pretty city situated on the Danube between Vienna and Munich. Since we cannot choose the French people we will have to live with, we prefer the country where there are none. In Prague, we had the ordeal of the ill-bred French, we don't want to do it again. He then evokes a "coarse character" to whom his wife closed the door and who took revenge "by publishing in all the cities where he passes that the miserable creature with whom he travels is called the Duchess of Otranto", etc.
