FIESCHI, Joseph (1790-1836), he committed an attempt against Louis-Philippe, on July 28, 1835 and in spite of his failure, will be guillotined. Set of 6 documents: 3 L.A.S. and 3 curious pieces related to him. -Two letters from prison, addressed to the President of the Chamber of Paris. Prison of the Conciergerie, November 17, 1835 and n.d. 2 pp. in-4, addresses on the backs of the second leaves. Restorations. Fancy spelling. "You had granted me all, what it was possible to you and I dare to hope that you will grant me again a favor to allow Mr. Girardin, doctor to come to see me in my prison [...] To tell you the truth that I am not even able to tell you [...] ". "I do not forget anything, neither the good nor the bad [...] soon I will be called to undergo a sentence that my celestiality has deserved. To a remainder I regret more me victim than my life [...] ". -Letter of prison, addressed to M. de Lalande five days before his decapitation. Prison of Luxembourg, February 14, 1836. 1 p. in-4. " [...] I greet you with all my soul you are attached to one of the most shameful man that the sense of our fatherland possesses [...] ". -Letter written in the name of Marie Fieschi, sister of the regicide, to ask a financial help to Napoleon III. S.l. [Bastia], April 20, 1852. 2 pp. in-folio. Signature "La Postulante illettrée". Description of the situation of extreme poverty of Marie Fieschi, 70 years old and "barely able to drag herself to go and beg a piece of bread". "The titles that the postulant has to put forward to implore this favor are true misery, old age and the fact that she is the sister of Joseph Fieschi who launched the Infernal Machine against Louis Philippe, her political opinions being only in favor of the family of the Great man [...]". -a curious handwritten piece dedicated to the martinet "which was seized from Fieschi", and of which a similar copy is in the Vatican library among the instruments used against the martyrs. S.l.n.d. 1 p. in-8. -L.A.S. from Dr. Gervais, addressed to Dr. Gaubert, phrenologist. Paris, 25 February 1836. 1 p. in-8. Gervais asks for the note dedicated to the "diameter of the skull of Fieschi". This skull was the object of research of criminal anthropology; the aforementioned Gaubert practiced an examination of phrenology and concluded to the free will of the regicide.
