[NAPOLEON I]. DESCHAMPS, Mrs. Pierre. Autograph... - Lot 73 - Gros & Delettrez
[NAPOLEON I]. DESCHAMPS, Mrs. Pierre. Autograph manuscript relating the memories of her voluntary exile on the island of Elba with Napoleon I. 1839. 44 pp. in-4 (35 are stapled, the introductory leaves are very fragile with small losses in the margins). Scratches and corrections. Interesting souvenir of the wife of Pierre Deschamps, colonel, fourrier of the Emperor's palace in 1806 then Chevalier of the Empire in 1812. The couple had voluntarily followed Napoleon in his exile on the island of Elba in 1814, out of loyalty. She relates in particular the last days of the Emperor in France and their voluntary exile. "Each time I had the honor of approaching his Majesty the Emperor Napoleon, I was enchanted. His noble bearing, his graceful manners, his most amiable smile, the sparks of wit that sprang from his eyes and gave his beautiful physiognomy an inexpressible charm, especially when he had received news of his beloved wife, his good Louise, as he called her [...]. We were so happy in this exile [...]". Attached is a typed transcription (with errors) of most of the said manuscript.
