BERNARD VILLEMOT (1911-1989)
Original project for the Orangina poster. Gouache on paper. Signed lower left "Villemot". Around 1953. Size : 163 x 130 cm. Bernard Villemot, a famous French poster artist, produced innovative advertising campaigns, notably for Air France, Orangina, Perrier or Bally shoes. In 1953, he created a poster for Orangina with a simple composition, elegant figures with warm and vibrant colors that evoke the cut-outs of Matisse. In this famous poster he represents a table, a straw in a glass and an orange peel in the form of a spiral evoking a parasol on a blue sky background. The original model that we present to you is a historical document, it is the original project of the first and famous advertising poster for the brand Orangina. Bernard Villemot collaborated with Orangina for more than thirty years, during which time he designed 17 posters featuring the orange peel as a straw hat, face, parasol, hair curls, sun or swimsuit. "A poster is a drawing, a painting, a colour. In fact, I am a painter, poster artist and draughtsman. ». "I was perhaps the first to treat images in large flat areas of colour, a bit like Matisse did in painting. ». Bernard Villemot
