Jean MIOTTE (1926-2016)
Black enamelled ceramic anthropomorphic lamp base. About 1950. H : 21,5 cm Jean Miotte is a French painter born in 1926 who frequented the Montparnasse studios, Othon Friesz and Osip Zadkine in the post-war period. His painting, and more widely his work, is commonly recognized as being akin to Art Informel and lyrical abstract painting with forms that are a complete break with traditional forms and with a constant complete redefinition of composition. Miotte's graphic works have been and are exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including the Musée d'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His ceramic work is rare on the market, so the lamp we present is an exception. It uses abstract forms with a free and modern compositional treatment that recalls the works of other talented and contemporary ceramists such as Georges Jouve, Vera Székély or Guidette Carbonell.
